  • Check Print Settings: Ensure the document or image you are printing is set to use black ink or grayscale mode, and not a color profile that simulates black using color inks (which can result in a purple tint).
  • Run Automated Printhead Cleaning: Use the printer's built-in utility to clear blockages in the nozzles.
    • Load plain white paper in the input tray.
    • On the printer control panel, swipe left on the display, touch Setup > Tools > Clean Cartridges (or Clean Printhead in the HP Smart app).
    • Review the print quality diagnostic report and run up to two more cleaning cycles if the issue persists.
  • Align Printheads: Color misalignment can cause unexpected color tints. Use the automated alignment tool to ensure proper alignment.
    • Open the HP Smart app, navigate to your printer's settings, and find the Align printheads option under Print Quality Tools or Alignment & Maintenance.
  • Update Firmware/Drivers: Outdated software can sometimes cause communication issues leading to incorrect colors. Check the HP website for the latest firmware and drivers for the HP Smart Tank 515.
If these steps do not resolve the problem, the printhead itself may be faulty and need replacement, or the printer may require servicing.
