i need help installing the encoder strip.

I don’t see a hook on the right side.

do I have to take the sides off ?

HP Recommended

On the right side is a hook that fall off when the encoder strip came off, it's made of thin metal and it acts like a spring to keep the encoder strip under tension. You will need to disassemble the printer.
