The power button doesn't work. I either need to replace the button or figure out where the fuse is and replace that. I've let it sit in the box brand new until the warranty expired. Uggh now I'm on my own.

It's the HP LASERJET PRO MFP M479FDW

Hi @LisaM59,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the power button on your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M479FDW is not working and the printer won’t power on, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can take before considering hardware repairs or replacements. Here's a guide to help you address the issue:

1. Check Power Supply

  • Verify Power Connection:
    1. Ensure Proper Connection:
      • Make sure the power cord is securely connected to both the printer and the electrical outlet.
    2. Try a Different Outlet:
      • Plug the printer into a different electrical outlet to rule out issues with the outlet.
    3. Inspect Power Cord:
      • Check the power cord for any visible damage. If damaged, replace it with a new one.

2. Perform a Power Cycle

  • Power Cycle the Printer:
    1. Unplug the printer from the power source.
    2. Wait for about 60 seconds.
    3. Plug the printer back in and attempt to power it on.

3. Check for Electrical Issues

  • Inspect for Fuse Issues:
    • Printers typically do not have user-accessible fuses. If you suspect an internal fuse issue, it is usually recommended to contact a professional technician or HP support for service.

4. Examine the Power Button

  • Inspect Power Button:
    1. Look for Obstructions:
      • Ensure that there are no obstructions or debris around the power button that could prevent it from functioning.
    2. Check Button Mechanism:
      • Press the power button firmly and check if there is any resistance or unusual behavior.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
