OfficejetPro 8715
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I was printing on my OfficeJet Pro 8715 (using remanufactured cartridges no prolem for years) when the printer stopped and displayed the message "Printer is not designed to use continuous ink systems"'  I then inserted another full remanufactured cyan cartridge and received the message "cartridge depleted" (which it was not).  I have 3 cyan cartridges that I rotate between and received both messages above after I insert each cartridge.  I have the latest 2006B firmware installed.  I read that firmware 1733A removes the chip security system that the April 12, 2019 update installed on the HP printers that made remanufactured cartridges unuseable.  I don't see that firmware available on the HP support site when I insert my printer model and click the firmware button.  Any suggestions?  I have tried many of the "fixes" that I have read about in the community forum with no luck.

Hi @Redman65

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

HP does not recommend using non-HP or refilled ink cartridges. It may or may not work. HP cannot guarantee the functionality of third-party ink cartridges.

You may refill your cartridges or use remanufactured cartridges, but you may run into problems. HP will not guarantee the functionality of those ink cartridges.

QualityLogic, one of the world's foremost quality assurance organizations, tested the performance of HP inkjet print cartridges vs. remanufactured (refilled) brands. The results: original HP inkjet print cartridges far surpassed ink refills in both print quality and reliability.

Nearly one out of every six refilled ink cartridges tested was dead on arrival or failed prematurely 70% of refilled cartridges had some form of reliability problem Count on HP original ink cartridges for consistent, worry-free printing.

You may think you're saving money on remanufactured or refilled ink cartridges, but in the long run, the cost of wasted time, ink, and paper can more than make up the difference.
