Faxing. After I enter the Fax number including the number one (!) first, the machine tries to send and after some ring tones the machine showes me all the numbers it entered, [edit](my number) followed by [edit](the number I'm faxing to. and then tells me I must enter a number one (1). In the past I've sent faxes the same way and it's always worked. Please he;lp. Thank you, Erwin Cheldin, [edit]

Hi! @erkie, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Community!
Don't worry I'll try to help you out.
Did you make any changes to the printer?
Are you able to receive faxes on the printer?
Do you get any errors while sending or receiving fax from the printer?
Try the steps recommended below.
Step 1: Print a fax test report
To begin troubleshooting, print a fax test report to identify any issues with the printer, phone line connection, or fax settings. On the printer control panel, locate Run Fax Test or Fax Test Report in the Fax or Setup menus.
Review the report for any tests that failed and follow any instructions provided. If the issue is not resolved, continue to the next step.
Step 2: Redial the number and adjust sending settings
Confirm the following dialing requirements and fax settings to help identify issues when faxes do not send. Fax setup and preferences settings are in the Fax or Setup menus on the printer control panel.
-
Manually dial the fax number: From the printer, dial the number as if you are making a phone call, including the area code, the access code such as '9' to connect to an outside line, and the long-distance country code. If dialing with speed dial, confirm the saved number has required pauses between numbers (adding a dash between 9 and the area code, for instance).
-
Lower the fax speed: Select the slow or standard setting.
-
Turn off Error Correction Mode: Turning off this feature can improve sending success when the phone line quality is poor, but the image quality of the received fax might be unsatisfactory. If this must be turned off to send faxes, have the phone service provider check the line quality.
-
Send the fax in black and white: If a color fax cannot be sent, the receiving fax machine might not support the feature.
-
Confirm the dialing type (tone or pulse): Most phone lines use tone dialing.
-
Enable error reporting: Turn on the Fax Error Reports feature to print a report if an error occurs when sending or receiving a fax. If the report includes a numeric error code, go to Fax Error Codes and Solutions.
Use the HP Fax Test Service to confirm your fax is working after initial setup or to check for connection issues.
Send a one-page black and white text fax to 1-888-HPFaxme (1-888-473-2963). When the service receives your fax, a return confirmation fax is sent within five minutes. This verifies that you can both send and receive a fax.
Read the following guidelines and tips if the test fax fails to send or the confirmation fax is not received.
Add your fax number in the fax header: The service uses the header number to send the confirmation fax. Make sure your full 10-digit fax number is in the header, and that it matches the number of the phone line connected to the fax.
Remove conflicting phone line services: Services such as voice mail, call waiting, anonymous call rejection, privacy manager, and caller ID can interfere with incoming faxes. Pressing *82 before dialing the HP Fax Test Service number unblocks the Caller ID blocking feature in most areas. Contact your telephone company if any of these services are interrupting fax communication.
Run a fax test: Print a fax test report to identify any issues with the printer, phone line connection, or fax settings. On the printer control panel, locate Run Fax Test or Fax Test Report in the Fax or Setup menus. Review the report for any tests that failed and follow any instructions provided.
If you still have issues after trying out the steps restore the fax settings to default and setup the fax again.
