Welcome to the HP Community Forum.

Sounds odd.

Some ideas...

The printer is not generally aware of what it prints.

In other words, the printer does not add any extra image or words to the printed content.

By the time the printer receives the print job,

The printer translates the content it has received to printer language,

The printer prints the output onto the paper.

True - weird things can happen if the printer hardware is not working correctly --

So - sure - printer could be the culprit but it is not likely.

HP Full Feature Software and / or HP Smart (for PC or Mobile) never add a "Watermark".

Document Editing programs - for example, Word - can add a "Watermark" image that shows through the document.

This is always the result of a deliberate action -- that is, you have to add the Watermark.

So, this is not a result of normal print operations using licensed / purchased software on a healthy printer.

This perhaps a result of using Trial printing software.

For example, This might be the result of using a program you have downloaded to create / print documents and photos.

What?

The program might let you use the software in "test mode" but then places a large "Sample" image on the content when it is printed on paper.

Why?

Placing a "watermark" (image) on the printed document or printed photo might encourage you to purchase the print program.

What else?

One thing to do -- if not already done --

Uninstall / Install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software.

=========================

Printer - Full Feature Software - Install

and

HP Scan

If you have not done so, consider

  • HP Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software - supports printing and scanning from the web, printing in in other software and programs (for example, Word), and provides access to the full range of Printing Preferences / Shortcuts.  The full driver adds at least two shortcuts to the Desktop:  Printer Assistant and HP Scan.  If the printer model includes built-in Fax hardware, the software supports the setup and use of the Fax driver.  No Sign-in required.

If the software is already installed and you want to "reinstall":

Uninstall the printer software from Programs and Features

Restart the computer and log in

Check that all the pieces of the printer software have been removed - if anything is deleted, Restart computer and log in

Next,

Download, Save, (then) Install new copy of the printer software

After the software in installed, Restart the computer and log in

============================

What else?

Just because something is unlikely does not mean it is impossible.

If other troubleshooting measures fail,

If you have already removed / reinstalled the printer software,

If you are not using a print program that is adding "Sample" to the output,

Consider >> Reset the printer.

HP printer turns off unexpectedly or repeatedly

Step 2

and

Restart Everything, including the router that controls your network
