Hi @DeborahBeads,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are getting the "Printer Failure" message with the error indicating a problem with the printer or ink system on your HP Officejet Pro 8620 E-All-in-One Printer typically relates to issues with the printhead or the ink cartridges. Here's how to troubleshoot this issue:
1. Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer.
- Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
- Wait for 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and the printer.
- Turn the printer on.
2. Check and Reseat the Ink Cartridges
- Make sure the printer is on.
- Open the ink cartridge access door.
- Wait until the carriage moves to the center.
- Remove each ink cartridge.
- Inspect them for any damage or leaks. If any cartridge looks damaged, it should be replaced with a genuine HP ink cartridge.
- Reinsert the ink cartridges firmly into their slots.
- Close the ink cartridge access door.
3. Remove and Clean the Printhead
If the error persists, the printhead may be causing the issue. Here's how to clean it:
- Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord.
- Open the ink cartridge access door and remove the ink cartridges.
- Gently lift the latch on the printhead and remove it.
- Use a lint-free cloth slightly moistened with distilled water to clean the electrical contacts on the printhead and the corresponding contacts inside the printer.
- Let it dry for a few minutes, then reinsert the printhead and the cartridges.
- Close the printer, plug it back in, and turn it on.
4. Update the Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware by visiting the HP Support website and searching for firmware updates for your printer model.
5. Perform a Hard Reset
- With the printer on, unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
- Hold down the power button on the printer for 30 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord to the wall and the printer, then turn it on.
6. Replace the Printhead (If Necessary)
If the issue persists and cleaning doesn’t resolve the error, the printhead may be faulty and require replacement.
