This color laserjet pro M255dw is the worst printer I have EVER owned.  I have spent DAYs trying to sort it out. Repeatedly says put paper in tray 1 when tray 2 is the default and then requires fiddling with the menu display to get the DAMed thing to print.

WHY cannot HP sort this out with an upgrade?

In most cases this behavior is caused by settings when a print job is set to use a paper size or type that is not loaded in the printer with the correct settings on the printer for that paper.

For example if you load letter head in the printer you have to either through the control panel or through the Embedded Web server, set the printer paper settings for the loaded tray to the correct size and letter head type. Often the drivers are defaulted to Color Lok paper and typically people have their printer set to any size any type or letter size, plain type and so the printer will stop and wait for you to load color lok paper. There is no "update" that can correct settings that are not correct. Change the default paper type to plain and make sure that the printer job you are sending is set to the same type of paper you have loaded and set on the printer.
