HP ENVYExample: Pavilion 6530
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I've had so many problems with my HP ENVY printer with off line error messages and more. This has literally cost me 4+ hours over the past days ALONE and that is horrendous! HP and it's "SUPPORT" is a joke!  You can only get help on line through a FAKE person and the system loops you around with no real help.  I am trashing this printer and purchasing a different brand. Just had to share!  Hope you're having better luck than me.

I feel your pain but for a different reasons.  I've had 2 HP printers.  I've paid between 100 to 150 UDS for both, so expected them to last me for at least 10 years.  I've had to replace both on average within 7 years of use.  My current HP printer suddenly stopped printing and scanning.  I only just found out that HP made my printer model obsolete in 2013, the year I bought it.  About 18 months or two years after that, it suddenly stopped working.  I couldn't figure out why  but I had to download a driver to get it to work again but in 2015 when this happened I still didn't know that HP wasn't supporting my printer anymore.  HP stopped stocking parts for customers who wanted to repair this model of printer.  Actually, HP online customer service have been helpful but it took 2 posts to get them to find out where I could get parts, because on HP's website it said I could and even showed me how to install the replacement part.  I spent several hours, trawling HP's online customer service webpages and on eBay, Amazon and other websites plus YouTube, trying to get help about where to find parts and how to repair my HP printer.  I even read articles about places in other parts of the world were they recycle e-waste by  repairing them.  Like I said, HP online customer service eventually gave me an answer but it'd cost me so much to repair it, it's cheaper for me to buy a new one.  So, I'm throwing out an all in one printer that could be repaired but for various reasons I won't go in to coz it'd take took too long, I have to chuck it out.  And I have to consider how much I can afford getting a new one and take in to consideration the cost of ink cartridges before I buy it.  Yeah, HP make me feel really great that I'm contributing to the mountain of unnecessary e-waste my fellow country folk and the rest of humanity are generating.  My next printer won't be a HP.  So yeah, I share your frustration but for different reasons.   Take care now.

When I said I expected them to last me at least 10 years I mean I expected my EACH printer last me at least 10 years.  When the first one stopped working  6 years after getting it I was annoyed but I sucked it up and got another HP printer.

Setting aside durability issues, the pace at which security requirements have changed over the past five years alone and how quickly things have become even worse, in some cases products cannot be expected to last 10 years because of the security hazards they present. I do not know your printing volumes but honestly a $100 dollar printer is not designed for high volumes without maintenance and service that likely exceeds the price of the machine. Unlike a TV or other nearly completely electronic device, printers are very mechanical in nature and have many sensors that are optical that can be disabled by dust and other environmental crud and the rollers get worn and dirty over time as well.  HP likely makes a printer that would give you ten years of service, but most users are not prepared to spend 500-1000 dollars for a printer.
