First, what I understand about computers could be fit on the head of a pin, not tech savvy at all!  It is even hard to navigate web pages.

My printer has not been scanning for a long time.  I finally tried to fix it but only created a bigger problem - now I have no printing either.  The screen just has an hourglass on it.

When it was just the scanning problem the screen would say "scan options are not set.  Install or run device software on computer.  Press OK to continue."

I tried the 'Print & Scan Doctor' - have no idea if it installed or did anything.

Also, recently upgraded to Windows 10.

Begging for help!  Thank you so much.

Hi lynnstrider,

I just looked up some info on your PSC 2410 , and looks like a full feature driver for Windows 10 is not available. Your printer is still supported with a built-in Windows driver, but this means you will not be able to start scans from the printer control panel. You will have to start scans from the computer.

Before you try to scan, try resetting the printer. With the power on, remove the power cable from the printer and the power outlet, wait 30 seconds, then plug the cord back in. To get the Windows driver to install, connect the printer to the computer with a USB cable - that should automatically detect the printer and install it.

Here are a couple options to scan.:

Windows Scan app (Windows 10, 😎: Search the Microsoft Store for 'windows scan' to find and install this scanning app from Microsoft.

Microsoft Paint (All Windows versions): Search Windows for 'paint' to open the Paint desktop app, click File or the menu icon  , and then click From scanner or camera.

Windows Fax and Scan (All Windows versions): Search Windows for 'fax' to open the desktop app, and then click New Scan.

Let me know if you get any other errors or issues, and we can keep trying a few things.

Hi JanKrank,

Thank you for your help.  Unplugging the printer did reset it and I can now print again…Yay!

I also launched the Microsoft Store “windows scan”.  I was able to scan a document (though it took approx.. 4 minutes) then print it.  Though I did not see where I could import the scanned document to my computer.

I realize my printer is older, the scanner used to be able to work just by pressing the “scan” button on top.  Maybe my scanner stopped working after the Windows 8 upgrade (?)– seems possible – and now the upgrade to Windows 10 is an additional concern.

I have LOTS of family photos to scan, so hopefully it will get faster?  If there are other ways to help the scan option, I’m interested.

Thank you so much for your help!  I spent three hours yesterday searching for a way to contact HP for help and couldn’t figure it out.  I tried my husband’s HP log-in and password but that didn’t help either.  Today I created my own HP account and found you!

Glad to hear the reset worked and that you can scan, but bummed that the scan speed is slow. Perhaps try one of the other tools I listed and see if they work better for you.

Yes, as printers get older and new operating systems release, some printer features can be impacted. The upgrade to Windows 10 did take away your ability to use the scan button on the printer, but at least there are some other options for you. Hope one of the other tools work for your photo scanning project.
