HP Laserjet 2100 M/TN Printer
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

My printer is a HP Laserjet 2100/M/TN, it is pretty old, but has always been reliable. It connects to my computer with a parallel Port (LPT1) When my Windows 7 computer (Dell Optiplex 740 was still on line, the printer was in a network thru a router with another computer. Not long after I took the computers off line I began  having trouble getting the printer to work. Sometimes it would, sometimes not. Now, i will not print; however, if I push the big button at the front, it will print a test page with all the specs of the printer. The page prints perfect. Can anyone figure this out for me?

Which driver are you using to drive the printer. We have run into many issues with the Microsoft default drivers and Microsoft print management system not monitoring status properly, causing these types of issues. Your best first step to try is using the HP UPD driver PCL5 as this is the only one that HP lists as compatible with this piece of legacy hardware. Secondly on your PC go to control panel>devices and printer and manually set this printer as your default. You may also find that if you can get the printer hooked backup up to network it might perform better. Parallel port connection is a dying standard.

I will check the driver and get both my windows 7 computers back in a network and try that configuration. I did not say before, but on my computer, my printer is not available to install, I am pretty sure that I used the PCL5 as my printer.
