DeskJet 4155e

My 4155e does not print black ink. In HP Smart App, when I click the printer image, there is no option for Print Quality Tools/Clean Printhead. Is there a way to manually clean printheads?

Hi @Galashay,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're unable to access the printhead cleaning option through the HP Smart App for your HP 4155e printer, you can try cleaning the printheads manually. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you with the process:

  • Manual Printhead Cleaning:
  • Turn Off the Printer: First, ensure your printer is turned off and unplugged from the power source to avoid any electrical hazards.
  • Open the Printer: Carefully open the printer to access the ink cartridge area.
  • Remove the Ink Cartridges: Take out the ink cartridges from the printhead. Handle them carefully to avoid any damage or ink spill.
  • Wet a Lint-Free Cloth: Dampen a lint-free cloth with warm water. Avoid using too much water, which could damage the printer. You can also use isopropyl alcohol for a more thorough cleaning.
  • Clean the Printhead Nozzles: Gently wipe the printhead nozzles on the printhead assembly. Be careful not to touch the nozzles with your fingers. Wipe in a horizontal motion.
  • Clean the Contacts: Clean the contacts on the printhead and the contacts inside the printer where the printhead assembly sits. This can help improve the connection and functionality.
  • Let it Dry: Allow the printhead to dry completely. Ensure no moisture is left before reinstalling it.
  • Reinstall the Ink Cartridges: Once the printhead is dry, reinstall the ink cartridges and close the printer.
  • Turn On the Printer: Plug the printer back into the power source and turn it on. Consider running a 'Print Test Page' to check if the cleaning has improved the print quality.

Running a Test:

  • After manual cleaning, it's a good idea to print a test page or perform a self-test diagnostic to see if the issue with not printing black ink persists. This can usually be done from the printer's control panel.

In the meantime, you may try the steps mentioned below:

  • Solution one: Remove the black cartridge
  • Solution two: Use genuine HP cartridges
  • Solution three: Check estimated ink levels, and then replace any low or empty cartridges
  • Solution four: Use an automated tool to clean the printhead
  • Solution five: Identify, and then replace the problem cartridge
  • Solution six: Service the printer

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
