Hi @JimB1947,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing trouble connecting your HP M140w printer to your wireless network and the exclamation point is flashing, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Check Network Status:

  • Ensure that your wireless network is working properly. Test other devices to confirm that they can connect to the same network without any issues.

Printer Placement:

  • Make sure your printer is placed within the range of your wireless router. Weak signal strength can cause connection problems.

Restart the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on. This can sometimes resolve connectivity issues.

Reset the Printer:

  • You mentioned you tried resetting it, but here's how to do it correctly:
    • Press and hold the Wireless button on the printer for at least 3 seconds. This should initiate the Wireless Setup Wizard.

Check Wireless Settings on the Printer:

  • Access the printer's control panel or display screen and navigate to the wireless settings. Ensure that the printer is set to connect to the correct wireless network (SSID) and that the security settings match those of your network.

Restart Your Router:

  • If other devices can't connect as well, try restarting your wireless router. Sometimes, this can help clear up connectivity issues.

Check for Interference:

  • Electronic devices like cordless phones, microwave ovens, and other Wi-Fi networks can interfere with your wireless signal. Ensure that your printer is placed away from such devices.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer on the HP website. Updating the printer's firmware can sometimes resolve connectivity issues.

Reconfigure the Wireless Connection:

  • If none of the above steps work, you may need to reconfigure the wireless connection on your printer. This usually involves running the Wireless Setup Wizard and entering your network's SSID and password.

Check for Error Messages:

  • Pay attention to any error messages or codes displayed on the printer's screen. These can provide clues about what's causing the issue.

Network Troubleshooting:

  • If all else fails, it's possible that there may be an issue with your wireless network itself. In this case, consider contacting your internet service provider or a network technician to diagnose and resolve network-related problems.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the connectivity issue with your HP M140w printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
