Hi @K738,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Experiencing issues where you need to turn off and on your HP LaserJet M101 or M106 printer to be able to print can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this problem.

Check for Error Messages: Before restarting the printer, check if there are any error messages or status lights on the printer's control panel. These can provide valuable information about what might be causing the issue.

Paper Jams: One common reason for printer issues is paper jams. Open the printer and check for any stuck paper. If you find any, carefully remove it and ensure there are no remaining paper scraps.

Printer Queue: Sometimes, print jobs can get stuck in the printer queue, preventing new print jobs from going through. To clear the queue, follow these steps.

  • On your computer, go to the Print Queue (this may vary depending on your operating system).
  • Cancel or delete any pending print jobs.
  • Restart the printer.

Firmware Update: Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware update installed. You can usually find firmware updates on the HP website. Updating the firmware can often resolve software-related issues.

Driver Update: Make sure you have the latest printer driver installed on your computer. Outdated or incompatible drivers can cause printing problems. You can download the latest driver from the HP website.

Connection Issues: Verify that the printer is correctly connected to your computer or network. If it's a networked printer, check the network cables and ensure it has a stable connection to your network.

Restart the Printer: If you still experience issues, try turning off the printer, unplugging it from the power source, waiting for a minute, and then plugging it back in and turning it on. This can sometimes resolve temporary glitches.

Factory Reset: As a last resort, you can perform a factory reset on the printer. Keep in mind that this will erase any custom settings, so make sure to note them down before proceeding. The steps for a factory reset can usually be found in the printer's user manual.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
