The front USB port is not charging other devices unless the printer screen is on too. This is the first time the printer is presenting this issue. I used to put my smart watch to charge overnight on the front port of the printer, but it is not working now as it used to. I would appreciate any help.

Hi @Rafael_T,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd like to help!

Try these step and see how it goes.

Troubleshoot the printer USB connection

Check the USB cable for damage and recommended length, and then restart your printer and computer.

Turn off the printer and the computer.

Disconnect the USB cable from the computer and printer, and then inspect the cable.

If the cable is damaged or longer than 3 m (9 ft 10 in), replace it.

If the cable is undamaged and shorter than 3 m (9 ft 10 in), connect the cable to a different USB port on the computer. The port should be USB 2.0 or greater. If you are using a USB hub or docking station, connect the cable directly to the computer.

Connect the cable to the printer.

Turn on the computer, and then wait for the startup process to complete.

Turn on the printer, and then add the printer (Mac) or wait for the computer to install the new device (Windows).

If this does not help, then the printer needs to be checked.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

I am surprised you have not gotten an error sooner. The ports on the printer are not designed to provide power for devices and are only designed a convenience port for plugging in a usb stick to print files or scan files. It is possible that a firmware update has enacted new power saving functions that turn the port off.

According to the user’s manual, the USB port located in the front of this particular printer can be used to charge other devices, but as you said the last firmware update maybe disabled that function.
