HP ENVY Pro 6455 All-in-One Printer

The bottom lights (which look like paper, which you press to copy something on the glass) on the control panel will not go out.  If I press the one on the left, it sends out a blank page.  I have reset to factory defaults and reconnected to wi-fi.  I have unplugged the printer and waited over a minute to try to clear it but the lights remain on.  I am having difficulty when I try to scan several pages through the document feeder.  I am having difficulty printing anything without shutting off and turning on the printer.  How can I clear this.

Hi @adorem,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy Pro 6400 series printer is experiencing issues with persistent control panel lights and printing/scanning functionality, try the following steps to resolve the problem:

Basic Troubleshooting Steps

Power Cycle the Printer:

  1. Turn off the printer.Unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.Wait at least 60 seconds.Plug the power cord back into the printer and the wall outlet.Turn on the printer.

Check for Paper Jams:

  • Open all accessible panels and check for any paper jams or obstructions.
  • Remove any paper jams carefully to avoid damaging the printer.

Clean the Document Feeder:

  • Open the document feeder cover.
  • Check for any small pieces of paper or debris that might be stuck.
  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth to clean the rollers and other components inside the document feeder.

Reset to Factory Defaults

Since you have already reset to factory defaults and reconnected to Wi-Fi, ensure that the reset was successful by checking the printer's settings.

Firmware Update

Make sure your printer’s firmware is up-to-date. Outdated firmware can cause various issues, including unresponsive control panel lights.

  1. Update Firmware:
    1. Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page.
    2. Enter your printer model (HP Envy Pro 6400 series) and download the latest firmware.
    3. Follow the instructions to install the firmware update.

Scan and Print Troubleshooting

Use HP Smart App:

  • Download and install the HP Smart app on your smartphone or computer.Open the app and add your printer.
  • Use the app to scan and print documents. This can help bypass any control panel issues and ensure the printer is functioning correctly.

Check Printer Settings:

  • Ensure that the printer settings are correctly configured.Go to the printer’s settings menu and check the scan and print settings.

Clear Error States

  • Open the print queue on your computer and clear any pending print jobs.Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.Right-click on your printer and select See what’s printing.Cancel all pending print jobs.Check the printer’s control panel and the HP Smart app for any error messages or warnings.Follow any troubleshooting steps provided by the app or control panel.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
