The USB drive needs to be formated as FAT32.

HP has fully tested the following USB flash drives with the printer:
  1. SanDisk Cruzer Micro: High-speed, 0120-256, 256 MB
  2. Iomega Micro Mini: Full-speed, 064-0417450-YCAE032171, 128 MB
  3. Kingston DataTraveler II: High-speed, KF112504 f5274-006, 128 MB and 256 MB
  4. Lexar Media JumpDrive: 256 MB
  5. Imation Swivel Pro Flash Drive USB flash drive:1 GB (USB 2.0)
  6. Kingston DataTraveler: 128 GB (USB 2.0)
  7. ORGE U-02: 256 MB
  8. SanDisk CZ73: 64 GB (USB 3.0)
       NOTE:
You might be able to use other USB flash drives with the printer. However, HP cannot guarantee that they work correctly with the printer because they have not been fully tested.
