I placed the avery labels 4 x 6 sheet in the printer against the guide for 4 x 6 and chose size 4 x 6 and type of paper Specialty Matte.  It prints above each label on the sheet, rather than in the center of the label.  It looks fine on the Avery template on the computer screen template.  In the Print section in Word I unchecked fit to page.

If the labels are 4x6, then the label sheet is not 4x6 inches.

If the label sheet is 4x6,

If your printer provides a photo tray (that would print 4x6 inch photos),

The printer may not like the label sheets in the photo tray because it expects photo paper.  Normally, this would just "fail" to print, though I guess that in some printers the "mismatch" might result in odd (but printed) results.

A few ideas (without knowing your printer model):

  • Select (instead of "specialty matte") Media type (kind of paper): Index paper, Brochure paper, cardstock (something other than photo paper type paper)
  • Try loading the sheets into the main tray (IF your printer has a photo tray and you were trying to use that)
  • Consider using the Avery Software.  Word does work, of course.  The Avery software combined with the Avery template, may produce better results.
