I am trying to print a PDF to a networked printer.  The paper we are using is "mailer" paper, that has some printing on the back (crosshatching so the paper can't be read through) and some chemical spots that stick together when folded so it can be put in the mail.  So I set the tray to "Preprinted" and told Adobe printer settings to use "Preprinted".  I got the Error Code 41.10.43  I cannot find any reference to this code anywhere.  Any list of codes starting with 41 only go to 41.05.x

We tried telling Adobe print on plain paper, and it printed on the plain paper just fine.

We set the tray to "Intermediate 85-95g" and told Adobe printer settings to print "Intermediate 85-95g" and I got the error code 41.10.F3

I found an error code page that lists "41.05.YZ Unexpected type in tray" with a chart.  The Y and Z correspond to paper types, of if the printer is expecting the try to have a Y of 4 (Heavy Paper 1) and paper in the try is a Z of 3 (Light Paper 1), that might be the issue.  According to the chart F = "Other Mode"  So I thought perhaps if I can get the two set the same way, that would fix the issue.

I then tried "Light 60-74g" for both the tray and Adobe.  This time I got the error 41.10.33  But if the two numbers match, shouldn't it work?

I am completely lost at this point...

Update.  The special paper was in Tray 3.  When we moved it to Tray 2, we got the error code: 41.10.42

So it's possible that the last number was a tray number, not a paper type, like I thought.  Error codes 41.1.x and 41.3.x have the last digit as being the tray number, per a document I found.

Hi @RichterCa,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the error code!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It looks like you're dealing with a paper type mismatch or tray configuration error based on the error code 41.10.43 (and similar errors like 41.10.F3 and 41.10.42). Since you're using preprinted mailer paper, the printer may not be recognizing it properly. Try these troubleshooting steps:

1. Confirm Paper Type & Weight in Printer Settings

  • Log into the printer's web interface or control panel.
  • Go to Tray Settings → Select the tray where the mailer paper is loaded.
  • Set the correct Paper Type (e.g., Preprinted or Heavy 1 if applicable).
  • Set the correct Paper Weight (check your mailer paper's specification and match it).
  • Ensure the paper is oriented correctly (especially for duplex printing).

2. Match Adobe & Printer Settings

  • In Adobe:
    • Open Print dialog → Click Properties (or Advanced).
    • Set Media Type to match what’s set on the printer (e.g., Preprinted).
    • Set Paper Weight to match printer settings.
  • Ensure that the settings for Tray Selection match what the printer expects.

3. Use Plain Paper as a Test

  • Since printing works on plain paper, try:
    • Setting the tray to Plain Paper but using the mailer paper.
    • If it prints, then the issue is the paper type setting being rejected by the printer.

4. Reset the Paper Type Setting

  • Try setting the tray to Auto Detect or Unspecified.
  • Some printers require paper weight/type to be configured in both the driver & printer, so ensure they are identical.

5. Check If Tray Number is Causing the Issue

  • Your error codes suggest the last digit might be the tray number:
    • 41.10.43 → Tray 3
    • 41.10.42 → Tray 2
  • Try switching the paper to Tray 1 and see if a different error appears.
  • If possible, update tray settings in the printer's web UI or control panel.

6. Update Printer Firmware

  • Some printers have firmware bugs that misinterpret paper types.
  • Check HP’s support page for your printer model and update the firmware.

Let me know if you need further details! 😊
