Let us know how your plan A goes. I got lucky and found another unit in great shape at a yard sale, thinking that I'd swap out the panel should the printer not work (it was $5 - what could go wrong, right? ) --- but, it worked perfectly until a few days ago. One side of the rollers no longer pulls the paper - now I have a new issue which I'm sure is not fixable either.

So, I swapped the panel and it worked fine. It was from a 8500a (non-plus) with a different assembly part number but I guess the only difference is the mounting bracket. $10 did the job.

 

While I was at it, I tried to pressure-clean the printhead and it appears I delaminated whatever stuff they have in there. Printer says ink system error and the colors are all mixed when I wipe the nozzles. I will buy and try one from China as I dont want to give up A3 printing.
