HP PageWide Enterprise Color Flow MFP 785z+
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After updating our printer to firmware 5.4 (2504171_023879) sometimes for some people it prints a page with %-12345X@PJL EOJ.Screenshot_1.png

What we have already tried to fix the issue:

  • Reinstalled printer locally (universal printer driver 6.6.5 and 7.0)
  • Used HP print tool to delete all remaining drivers locally / when deleting driver, all related registry settings were also deleted
  • Problem seems to be device related, not all computers have the issue, but the ones that do: doesn't matter who is logged in
  • On a computer that has the issue, manually adding a printer and pointing it to a driver (instead of GPO) works, but then you have to set all printer settings manually as well 🙄

We updated the printer to firmware 5.5, which has been posted for this model and it seems to solve this issue.

That is a print job language command and that suggests that your jobs have an embedded command that may not be supported by the printer. HP has just released 5.5, but checking the website the update for this model is not posted at this point but  you should try that once it released which should happen sometime this week.

Thanks for your reply. I know what PJL is 😉

It happens with all kinds of documents, even simple text files.

Before the 5.4 firmware the issue did not occur, so I guess they somehow introduced it for this model with the 5.4 fw.

I will wait for the 5.5 firmware for this device and feedback here if that solves the issue.
