Hello,
I want to use my HP Officejet pro 9022e with third-party ink, but the HP software/firmware prevents using such ink.
As far as I am aware, HP cannot force me to use their HP cartridges or subscribe to their instant ink program, which I do not want. It seems that a number of law suites are ongoing with customers suing HP:

Please let me know how I can use 3rd party ink with my printer.
If a firmware downgrade is required (to prevent the Dynamic Security feature) please provide instructions for this..

Hi @patprint01,
Welcome to the HP Support Community
I'd like to help!
You may refill your cartridges or use remanufactured cartridges, but you may run into problems. HP will not guarantee the functionality of those ink cartridges.
There are many cartridges in the market which is refilled and sometimes the chip is not configured to work with the printer. You need to contact the cartridge manufacturer and find out why it's not working. Try a different cartridge supplier and check if that works.
click here and please check HP Printers - Dynamic Security enabled printers
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.

I have the same issue with my 8715. After all these years using this printer I am now finally locked out from using third party ink. I have decided to buy a competitors product for less then the price of the HP INK I would need to buy. Good bye HP!!!
