Use hp956xl ink cartridge on officejet pro 8710 printer

I was told by Staples that I could use the HP956XL black ink cartridge in my OfficeJet Pro 8710 printer and it comes up as one of the ink cartridges for ordering from staples.com when I search for cartridges.  The manager at my local Staples retail store says they use this ink cartridge for their 8710 because it lasts for 3000 prints vs 2000 prints for the HP952XL black ink cartridge.  But when I put the 956XL cartridge into my printer, I get the error saying that it's not the correct ink cartridge.  I've done all the firmware and software updates for my 8710 printer.  Can someone tell me how I can use the 956XL cartridge?

The 956XL is meant for the 8720 series.

Thank you for trying to help.  I did find that information, but my local Staples store is somehow able to use the hp956xl ink cartridge in their 8710 and it does appear as a choice to purchase on Staples.com, so I was hoping that someone knew how to make it work.

Thank you also for trying to help.  I did find that information already and was posting hoping that someone knew how to make the 956xl ink cartridge work since my local Staples store uses it in their 8710 and the 956xl cartridge comes up as a choice to purchase for the 8710 on Staples.com. 

I don't think there's any way to use the 956xl in the 8710 (it's a mystery to me how my local Staples uses it and it's confusing that you can purchase it for the 8710 on Staples.com).  If there's a way to close out this discussion, let me know.
