I have a new HP Envy 5000 series printer and it started printing a black line down the left side of every page but the first on any print job of more than one page. Thinking this was a print cartridge problem I waited until I changed print cartridges, but that didn't fix it, nor did aligning the printer, restoring from factory settings, or updating it. I'm at a loss to do anything other than return it for a refund. A call to support only got me the offer of a refurbished replacement for a new printer with less than 100 pages through it. I've used HP for years without problems, it was my first choice but I'm regretting it now.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Interesting.. you seem to be having the same exact problem I'm having, at the same time. My printer was working fine before but now it's printing a line just like you have described. The only difference is that I have an HP Envy 5052 and I bought it a couple of years ago. It was working fine until this month.
Maybe it's an update issue - since the printer is connected to the internet and it likely automatically installs updates, HP may have released a faulty update. It seems like a rather odd coincidence to have the exact same issue at the same time and with no fix other than to replace the printer. Perhaps it is their way of forcing people to replace their printers with newer, more expensive models.
Whatever the case, HP needs to fix it, otherwise I'm not going to buy any HP products ever again.

@Gaviidae, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Apologies for the inconvenience. Let us try these steps to resolve this issue:
Try making a 3-page copy from the scanner glass to check if the line persists. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.
- Which application are you trying to print from?
- Have you tried printing different types of documents like PDF, Word, or Webpages and check if the issue persists?
Run HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix any driver issue
Click here to download the file. Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and click on 'Fix printing'.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

After being stuck in a never ending loop of 'support' that refused to believe that someone else already asked me to clean the glass and copy five pages, I gave up. And a refurbished replacement printer could not possibly solve the issue either. Unfortunately the support staff do not seem to understand that a new firmware update is needed to allow HP envy printers to work correctly under Windows 10. Perhaps if they were better trained, or those responsible for updating firmware at HP were better able to keep up with Windows updates, I would have had a working printer instead of wasting hours on the phone and on chats and getting nothing but frustrated with the lack of support.
