Inkjet F4580
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi. I have a HP inkjet F4580 which has been faultless for many years. The problem began in the last 3 months or so when I replaced the black cartridge with a genuine new HP300 black cartridge, and have since noticed shadowing of the letters & horizontal lines when I print. There appears to be a vertical misalignment creating this doubling/shadowing effect.

I made sure the drivers are up to date, cleaned the heads, wiped clean the scanner, aligned the cartridges numerous times & performed a hard reset but nothing worked. I bought another genuine black HP300 cartridge but still had the same problem.

I've deleted the HP printer driver & associated HP software and re-downloaded them again from the HP website. That didn't work either.

I have another HP Inkjet F4580 which was purchased as a back up & is still brand new.  I set this new printer up but even this has the same problem with the shadowed print. I have so far tried 3 genuine HP cartridges and all have the same problem. I'm not sure if this is a software issue.

Can anyone help me? I am tempted just to buy a different branded printer if I can't find a resolution soon.

Hi @GeorgeC8

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

If you have already performed the steps from the document Print-Quality Issues and the issue persists, it could be a hardware failure.

Please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

If you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty. If yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from. Check next to your profile name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.

Hope this helps!

I have tried 3 genuine HP300 black cartridges on 2 different F4580 printers. One of those printers was a brand new one I kept as a back up. I find it too coincidental that there was a hardware issue on both printers at the same time.

I've always used genuine HP  cartridges.

I was on the verge of purchasing a new printer but as a last resort I thought I'd try a non-genuine printer cartridge and guess what? The issue was resolved. No more doubling or shadowing of the print.

I cannot explain why I get this misalignment issue with genuine HP300 black cartridges.

Try cleaning the HP Cartridges, if you already have and the issue persists it could be a defective ink.

I suggest you contact phone support for further assistance

My warranty has expired. I've been navigating through your website but struggle to find UK helpline phone number or contact details. Can you give me this please?
