I recently upgraded to Windows 10 on my desktop and laptop. Both the desktop and laptop are part of my home network. I have the HP Officejet 4635e installed as part of the home network and I installed the HP software on both systems. The printer is functioning properly. I am able to print, scan and the HP 4635 passed the fax test. However when I run Windows Update I keep getting the following error message:
There were problems installing some updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help:
• HP - Enterprise WSD Multi-Function Printer, Other hardware - Null Fax - HP Officejet 4630 series - Error 0x80070490
All other available updates install successfully. This issue occurs when I run Windows Update on both the desktop and laptop. Can you provide any help on how to fix this issue?

This a what is called a "ghost update." I am getting same error when I run Update in Windows 10. Unfortunately there no way in Windows 10 to hide an update like in previous versions. So we just have to ignore these failed updates and continue on our merry way. Ghost Updates occur via Microsoft when our software is up to date and they are not aware of it. Maybe Microsoft will fix Windows 10 to hide updates later.

HP SUPPORT PEOPLE OUT THERE - THIS IS NOT OKAY!
Yes it does not cause any functional problems but - Have you ever looked at the Windows 10 Update logs. It is continuingly annoying because for every update this error keeps showing up - Worse - Windows 10 Updates keep trying to install a failed update. Now I updated to the latest HP drivers but I still see
the HP driver error poluting my Updates history and this appears to be as much an HP problem as it does a Microsoft problem. But neither company seems to care
This problem needs to be solved - Either HP needs to contact Microsoft soft and stop letting it update HP products or Microsoft needs to provide better support for these nasty annoyances!!!
I would really like to look at my updates history without being cut off because of too many HP driver update failures showing up - It also looks very virus like when it is not. When it is only poor support from both HP and Microsoft!!!
Why is everyone in this forum resigned to have ZERO response from HP??? I always thought the puropse of these forums was to effect change from HP when a problem clearly needs to be resolved for its customers.
CLEARLY I WAS WRONG as I see awful support even for the forum's forgotten passwords
I was recently told to create account with a new email. DONE! But how lame is that when they associate a garbled email address with my old password reset even though the current email is clearly correct.
Its just more NON CARING from HP which has sank to new lows in poor SUPPORT for its PRODUCTS!!!
THIS ERROR IS YET ANOTHER EXAMPLE!!!

Hai,
I was faced the same issue on my HP Deskjet 2135. When tried the below Steps, it's fixed for ever..
Please try the following steps and hope this help!
- Go to Settings-> Devices-> Connected Devices
- Click on device manager link at bottom of screen.
- Open “Printers”
- Then uninstall/delete the 'Unknown device' if present.
- Then rerun Windows 10 update.
Thanks and regards,
Jafeer Hamza.
