Deskjet 2630
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I've recently installed Deskjet 2630. I intend to use this with the usb cable attached to my laptop. All my internet is wired (using homeplugs/powerline devices) because wifi gives me headaches. Only one computer accesses the internet at any time, there isn't a network.

However, I've noticed that the printer keeps trying to find a wireless signal. I tried to switch this off using the method suggested in the manual (press and hold the wireless and the resume buttons together for three seconds) but this didn't work, the blue light continued to blink.

On set up, I told the HP Easy Start that I'd be using the printer via USB only.

How do I disable Wi-Fi Direct, and all other attempts to connect wirelessly?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to HP Support Forums. A really great platform for posting all your questions and finding solutions.

I have gone through your Post and I'll like to help 😊

I suggest you perform a Printer Reset

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.
(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed

Also update the Firmware from this Link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-deskjet-2600-all-in-one-printer-series/12319824/...

Then try disabling the WiFi-Direct once again.

If it doesn't work we will disable the WiFi-Direct from the EWS Page

- Print a Network Config Page from the printer. Note the printer's IP address.

- Press the Wireless button and the Information button at the same time to print the Network Configuration Page

- Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
- Choose the Networking tab, then disable WiFi-Direct and Save

Please perform these steps and let me know how it goes

Thank you and have a great day 😊

Thanks. The printer stopped searching for wireless after updating the firmware. It may have stopped after the reset, I didn't notice till doing the update. The firmware updater kept asking me to plug in the usb when the printer and computer were already connected. I tried unplugging the usb, waiting, then replugging. Eventually I told the dialogue box that I'd do this later, then noticed that the wireless light had gone off even though the printer was on.

Thanks for the help.
