Solved: What brings me a memory upgrade of my Laserjet 4100 - HP Support Community

Hi,

Still having the hope, I will be able to revitalise my beloved LJ4100.

A related question:

it currently has 32MB of memory in 1 bank.

There are 2 free banks yet.

What would an upgrade to 64 or 96 MB total bring me in performance of the printer?

Faster printing? Bigger pages? (I only print on A4 or smaller).

Are there other gains?

The advantages of more memory are pretty much as you state, but keep in mind that the overall page per minute rating of the printer does not change. The speed advantage you will see is in the time between when you click print and printing physically starts happening. You will also be able to print more complex documents.

Having said all that, do not expect that you will suddenly have a rocket ship, the actual processor on this old printer is slow even compared to some of the least expensive laser printers now available and printers considered a direct replacement often have 512Mb or a Gigabyte of memory installed.

If you can find some cheap memory, go for it, it can only help.

Thank you for your help!

I know the printer is old, but I do like it's build-quality.

As speed is not my aim (I don't print in a production-setting, but am a home-user), the sole gain would be the ability to print more complex sheets (I guess bw-photos would be).

I will search for additional ram for this 'beast'.
