The error message that keeps coming up on my printer states... "There is problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off, then on. If problem persists, contact HP. I have a HP Officejet 6700 premium. I also just loaded in new ink cartridges. I ran a cleaning and found that blue and yellow inks work. The black and magenta aren't. What do I do to solve this problem?

@noname256, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

We see you are encountering "There is a problem with the printer or ink system" error with your HP Officejet 6700 Premium printer. Since your black and magenta inks aren't printing, here are the most effective steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Use Genuine HP Cartridges

Ensure you're using genuine HP 932/933 or 932XL/933XL cartridges. Non-HP or refilled cartridges can cause ink system errors.

Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall and printer.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn the printer on.

This can clear temporary system glitches.

Clean the Printhead

Since black and magenta aren't printing, the printhead might be clogged:

  • Use the printer’s “Clean Printhead” function (you may need to run it 2–3 times).
  • If that doesn’t help, manually clean the printhead:
    • Remove the cartridges.
    • Gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth and distilled water.

Check for Air Bubbles or Ink Flow Issues

Sometimes new cartridges may have air bubbles blocking ink flow:

  • Remove and reinstall the cartridges.
  • Gently tap them to dislodge bubbles.

Run a Print Quality Diagnostic Report

This can help identify which nozzles are clogged:

  • On the printer, go to Setup > Tools > Print Quality Report.
  • Look for missing lines or faded colors in the black and magenta sections.
