I have a HP  PageWide Pro 577 MFP, and I set the administrator password. However, it won't take administrator as a user name when I try to gain access.  What is the administrator name for the HP  PageWide Pro 577 MFP?

Please help. If this doesn't work, How do I factory reset the Printer?

Hi Altalenny,

For all PageWide Pro 300, 400, and 500 series devices, the default Administrator username is "admin".

To reset the admin password on any of the above product series devices, do the following:

  1. Starting at the Control Panel, swipe down from the top of the touchscreen display, then select the gear icon at the top left corner of the display to show the "Setup" screen.
  2. On the Setup screen, scroll down to the "Printer Maintenance" item and select it.
  3. On Printer Maintenance screen, scroll down to the bottom and select the "Restore" item.
  4. On the Restore screen, select "Restore to Factory Defaults", which should reset the device settings, including the Admin password.

Note: If the "Restore to Factory Defaults" is not shown in the Restore screen, you must first enable the "Reset to factory defaults" setting from the Enable Disable menu.  To access the Enable Disable menu, do the following:

  • -> On the Control Panel, while it is at the home screen, touch one of the Apps (like the Copy Document app) and note that the "home" and "back" icons are illuminated to the left of the main control panel area.  Make a mental note of the location of these icons.
  • -> Next, press the home icon to return to the home screen.
  • -> While on the home screen, touch the icon locations in the following sequence (which not illuminated while on the home screen, but for which you made a mental note of above): home, back, home, back.  The Enable Disable menu should now be shown on the Control Panel.
  • -> Select Enable Disable Menu and the Advanced Printer Configuration menu is shown.
  • -> Scroll down to the "Reset to factory defaults" and touch the "OFF-ON" button and make sure it is "ON"
  • -> Touch the back button several times until you return back to the home screen.
  • -> Repeat steps 1-4 above to Restore to Factory Defaults.

Although rare, the other problem you might have is that the “Restore” item in step 3 may be “greyed out” and when you try to select it a “Feature Locked” message is displayed.  If this is the case, the Control Panel has been locked in the Administrator Settings and there is no way to unlock it to enable the Restore to Factory Settings.  In this case, the only option is to service the printer and replace the Main PCA.

Hope this helps.  Please let me know how it goes.  It this resolves your problem please add a Kudos and indicate that this solved your problem by marking it as Accepted Solution so that others with this problem can more easily find the solution. Thanks! and thanks for buying HP products.
