Hi
I just set up a new Officejet 8730 printer.
All went ok and is now connected via ethernet to my home network
All devices can print, PC, notebook, ipad and iphone.
So this is all good.
However when I press the settings icon at the top right of the printers control panel it asks for a pin number.
At no stage during the setup was I asked for one, so can anyone tell me what this is or how do I find it?
kind regards
Kev

Greetings @Monaro318,
Thanks for the post.
I understand that you are unable to access the settings button on the printer as it is asking for a pin, is that right?
Not to worry, I will be glad to assist you.
None of the printers ask for a pin to access the settings. Have you tried 0000 or 1234?
Would it be possible for you to share a screenshot?
Did you get this printer as an open box or as a gift?
Are you trying to setup WPS, instant ink or scan to email?
Did you set up any administrative rights during the printer installation?
Recommend you disable web services by touching the web services button on the front panel and try accessing the settings button.
If the printer still asks for a pin, I will be sending you a private message with the procedure to reset the printer.
Try the reset and let me know if it helped.
Keep me posted.

Hello, @Monaro318
I see that you were interacting with @Chimney_83. He is out of office and I'd like to help 🙂
I understand your printer is asking for an administrator password while accessing the settings on the printer. Let’s try to fix the issue by following the steps mentioned below:
- Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.
- Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
- Now go to the Security Tab - Administrative Settings.
- Uncheck the "Control Panel Lock".
If the issue persists, then we will have to completely reset the printer. I am sending you a private message to perform the reset on your printer. Please click on the mailbox icon at the top-right corner to access your inbox.
Let me know if that helps!
Good luck 🙂

Thanks for the reply. Dvortex was letting you know how the back button looks. Anyway, find the screenshot for the front panel of your printer below and you need to press the back button 4 times, button number 5 as shown in the image below.
If the issue persists and you are unable to perform a semi-full reset, request you contact our phone support team for assistance.
Keep me posted.

Other replies ask me to press the back icon 4 times to access another menu but pressing the back icon, no matter how many times does not change the display panel menus or bring up a printer support menu

Thanks for the reply.
Did you restart your printer and press the back button 4 times in quick succession to get the service menus.
I am unable to find the information you are looking for.
Would it be possible for you to share the screenshots of the front menu and the screen asking for pin?
This would help me understand your concern better.
Keep me posted.

However I contacted hp via phone about this
Your support rep has told me the sign in icon in the top right of the display panel is for developer access and is not for consumer use. He believes it should not be visible and future software upgrades will remove this icon
So there seems to be a significant diffence of opinion between the info published here and the hp phone support group. Would have saved a great deal of time if someone said this at the start

Thanks for the reply and providing the information, if it is for developer access do not use that icon.
If possible connect your printer to your computer using a USB cable.
Visit www.hp.com/drivers and enter the product number of your printer.
Download and install the latest firmware on the printer.
Please do contact our phone support team to check on the service options available if you want the printer replaced.
Keep me posted.
