When I print envelopes in Word, They print with a blurry, fuzzy text and on the wrong side of the envelope. My computer is windows 11 and my printer is an HP 8620. My envelopes used to print just perfectly. I have done all of the things that were suggested in other posts (loaded updated drivers, checked the font in the Word program). Still prints small and blurry.

Dragon-Fur....THANK YOU for your reply!!  I can only hope that you didn't have to put all of this together just for me. I am an 80 year old guy and your answer is so far over my head that I can just barely see it. I don't know how to do 95% of the things that you suggested.

I find it odd that I used to be able to print envelopes with the Word app that was installed on my last computer. I was told that I needed a new computer because Windows 10 was going away so I purchased  new Dell computer that came with Windows 11 and Word.  The first time that I tried to print envelopes with the new computer, it printed them with a weird, fuzzy font. All of my other printing works just fine. I tried for several hours to follow your suggestions but finally gave up. I will just have to return to using a pen to address my envelopes. My hand may not be very steady but, if I take my time,  I can do a better job that Word can.

     Thank you again for trying so hard to help me. I really appreciate your effort. It is so very nice of you to put forth such effort in an attempt to solve my issue. It is clearly my fault that I was unable to fix it. I am certain that you gave me the required tools.

You are welcome -- I am sorry it was not helpful.

As computers become more capable, they have also become more complicated.

It is my fault that I cannot explain what you need to know, I think.

Smiling.

Much of what I suggested are "under the hood" setups -- very important but perhaps not as familiar as opening your email or creating a document.

What can we do?

I will ask for help so another Expert can answer and make clear what I've made into mud.

Smiling.

I have not been able to help -- my answers are too complicated and I am missing the point.

There is more to try but so far it's just been confusing - my fault.

Can you help?

======================================

Chris,

Final Notes...

If everything else prints as expected, then the settings I mentioned in my first post are perhaps OK.

Can you print regular "not envelope" documents in Word ?

What is the "Word app" you are using to print envelopes?

If you can print regular "not envelope" documents in Word, then it is likely the full feature printer software is installed.

What?

The full feature software, also called the "full driver", is needed to support printing in Word.

If the answer is no, you cannot print a Word document, then the printer software needs to be installed.

I've posted the basic "how to load printer software" instructions below.

======================================

Reference / Details / Examples

=====================

Printer Software - Full Driver

Reinstall the full driver printer software

Uninstall existing printer software

  • Uninstall existing full driver printer software from Programs and Features.
  • If your printer includes a separate "help" in Programs and Features, uninstall that, too.
  • Restart the computer and log in.

Install full driver printer software

  • If the printer is connected to the computer using a printer USB cable, remove / disconnect the cable before loading the software.

Web Pack Installation - Web Page - Full Driver Printer Software

Open this webpage as reference -

HP Officejet Pro 8620 e-All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Drivers

=======================================

On the page, you will find the installation package that contains the printer software.

Click on the "Download Now" button to download the installation package to your computer

OR

Double Click this file:

How-to Help

At the bottom of the page, click / open the "Installation Instructions".

For example, these are the how-to instructions when using the Firefox web browser.

The instructions are similar for other browsers, too.

Examples of Web Browsers:

Chrome, Microsoft Edge (the replacement for the old "Microsoft Explorer")

Install your printer software --

1. Click the Download button.
2. When a new pop-up window appears, click the Save File button.
Note: Depending on your connection speed, the file will take some time to transfer to your computer.
3. When the download completes, double-click the most recent file to start the software installation.
4. If an "Open Executable File?" pop-up window appears, click the OK button.
5. If an "User Account Control" pop-up window appears, click the Continue or Yes button.
Note: The file is compressed and may take time to extract and run.
6. Follow the on-screen instructions.

NOTES

  • If using a USB cable to connect the printer to your computer, connect the cable when instructed to do so (near the end of the software installation process.
  • After the software is installed, Restart your computer and log in.

Dear Dragon-Fir - First (and most important), you have absolutely no fault here.  The only "fault' lies with me and my limited knowledge of computer stuff. I am completely overwhelmed by your effort to help me. I realize that saying "thank you" does not convey how much I appreciate your efforts, but it is the best that I can do.
For the record, everything else prints perfectly. I can adjust fonts and colors on everything that I print except for envelopes.  For example, I cut and pasted all of your suggestions into a word document, changed the font type and size and printed them without issue.
I have a friend who's son is pretty computer literate (he is the one who set up my computer in the first place). Their farm is close to ours and he plans to be home over Christmas. He suggested that I hold onto your suggestions and he'll see what he can do.
In the meantime, I can hand write the addresses on the 4 or 5 envelopes that I write every month. Pretty soon, my wife and I will start addressing Christmas cards but my wife insists that we do that by hand anyway.
One last thing: The first line in your reply to me said  "I am sorry it was not helpful".  Please don't believe that. I was the one who wasn't helpful. Not only were you helpful....you also warmed my heart by trying so hard to solve my minor problem. You demonstrated that there are good people out there that want to help just to do the right thing. Not only do I appreciate your effort...I also appreciate your humanity.
Thank you again. I will let you know how it goes.

Hi @Dragon-Fur

Entering into this thread to help user @Chris4125  😇

First things first..😉

1. This usually happens when there are some issues with installed printer drivers.

2. Once installed it will be good to Restart computer and try again to print Envelopes.

3. About the issue mentioned about printing on the wrong side of the Envelope...

  • It will be good to check the proper placement of the Envelope on Paper Tray.
  • ferRX_0-1762311844982.png

4. Maybe the next video could help on general steps How to Print and Envelope:

* Click YES   to say thank you,

* Click Accepted as Solution when question is answered.

FerRX -
       Thank you for your reply.  I'd like to provide a little more information about my issue.
1)  I probably didn't describe the print position on the envelope very well. My paper tray has an envelope position indicator built into it to show the correct positioning of the envelope to be printed and I have printed many, many envelopes correctly in the past. The problem is not that the envelope is being printed on the back side. The problem is that the printing itself is printed as though the envelope has been rotated 180 degrees (even though it has not).  When the envelope has been printed and I look at the address, the opening flap for the envelope is on the back as it should be but the flap is upside down. That issue is not that big of a deal. I can solve that by ignoring the position indicator on the tray and put my envelope in the tray rotated 180%.  I mentioned that issue just to show the whole picture of the issue. It didn't used to print that way. The main issue is that envelopes print with an unknown fuzzy font no matter how the main address or return address font are set in the Word envelope program.
2)  Everything else that I print from word (and from other sources) prints perfectly. I can change fonts and font sizes as well as colors and it prints on the page just as it should. As a matter of fact, I cut and pasted all of your suggestions and printed them without issue. I have a friend coming by to help me try to solve this issue. I'll let you know how he/we do.
       Thank you VERY much for your help.

Hi @Chris4125

Thank you for providing more information, it really helps to understand the issue. 😇

Hope that after updating once again the printer driver, then that printer could work as expected and you can print Envelopes to send your Christmas cards.

@ferRX

Thanks for the help.

I thought perhaps I'd missed something.

It happens.

@Chris4125

Should you decide to do so, refer back to my first message and the posted the basic "how to" to reload the full driver printer software - @ferRX  has also posted the link to the web pack.

What?

When everything else is printing as expected, that is indeed generally an indication of a healthy driver.

and

Nonetheless, corruption can take different forms.  Consider uninstalling / reinstalling the printer software.

What else?

If you have not done so, perhaps try the power reset.  The "unplug-wait-plug-and-go" sequence can cure odd glitches and errors.  See my first post, section > Printer - Power Reset

AND / OR

Note:  The Reset option is also described here:

 HP OfficeJet 8600 Printers - 'Paper Jam' error

Complete Steps 3 and 4

The envelope is not printing in the correct orientation -- this might happen

  • as a part of a glitch (gremlins in the printer) - try the Reset,
  • as a part of a corrupted driver -- uninstall / reinstall the printer software
  • as a result of having the orientation set to Landscape - check the print menu settings
  • as a result of loading the envelopes incorrectly - check the user guide
  • as a result of the Printing Preferences being set to other than the preferred "General Everyday Printing" shortcut - check / adjust the Printing Preferences
