Hi @cbisbee,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're encountering a "print canceled" message when trying to print from your Dell Inspiron 14 laptop to an HP 8020 printer, there are several potential reasons for this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Check Printer Connection:

  • Ensure that the HP 8020 printer is properly connected to your Dell laptop. If it's a wireless printer, make sure it's connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your laptop.

Printer Status:

  • Check if there are any error messages or warning lights on the printer itself. Resolve any issues indicated by the printer.

Printer Queue:

  • Open the printer queue on your laptop to check if there are any pending print jobs or if the print job is stuck. Follow these steps:
    • Press the Windows key + I to open Settings.
    • Go to "Devices" and select "Printers & scanners."
    • Locate your HP 8020 printer and click on it.
    • Check the print queue for any pending jobs. If there are, try clearing the queue and printing again.

Restart Devices:

  • Restart both your Dell laptop and the HP 8020 printer. This can help resolve temporary communication issues.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Ensure that you have the latest drivers for your HP 8020 printer installed on your Dell laptop. Visit the HP support website to download and install the latest drivers if needed.

Check for Software Conflicts:

  • Disable any firewall or antivirus software temporarily to check if they are blocking the print job. If the print job goes through, you may need to adjust the settings of your security software.

Reinstall Printer:

  • Remove the HP 8020 printer from your laptop and reinstall it.
    • Go to "Devices" in Settings.
    • Select "Printers & scanners."
    • Click on your HP 8020 printer and select "Remove device."
    • Reinstall the printer by clicking on "Add a printer or scanner" and following the on-screen instructions.

Check Print Spooler Service:

  • Ensure that the Print Spooler service is running on your laptop. You can do this by:
    • Pressing Windows key + R to open the Run dialog.
    • Typing services.msc and pressing Enter.
    • Locate "Print Spooler" in the list, right-click on it, and choose "Start" if it's not already running.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
