HP Officejet 4500 Desktop All-in-One Printer - G510a
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

when I try to print an envelope on my printer, the paper jams. But when I print a regular letter size paper there is no problem. When the printer was new the envelopes would print with no problems. I have looked inside the printer both in the front and the back and I do not see any paper jams. I have disconnected the printer and reset it. Can anyone tell me why I am having this problem?

Thank you

The how-to basics here:

 Printing Envelopes (Windows)

Known solutions here:

The Attention Light Flashes (Paper Jam) for HP Officejet 4500 Desktop (G510a and G510b) All-in-One ...

Document includes instructions to clean the printer rollers (inside the printer).

Observations...

Once the printer is checked, ink and settings verified, the inside is clean, consider:

  • Envelopes might be too dry, curled, damp (yes, this is a "thing"), embossed, too thick, or otherwise unsuitable.
  • Envelope size may not be supported (See Specifications > Paper Handling > Supported Envelopes)
  • Envelopes might be loaded incorrectly:  wrong way "facing" up / down, orientation (See User Guide Page 20)
  • Number of loaded Envelopes might be "too few"  or "too many" (either of these can cause weird issues).
  • Envelopes setting might be missing or incorrect in Word > Mailings > Envelopes

You are welcome.

I don't have your printer - I do print a lot of envelopes and the operation can be problematic on occasion for different reasons.  Hopefully, your printer will cooperate after a bit of maintenance and kind words.  Smiling.

As a side note, I just lost (donated) two of my favorite printers - an older Officejet Pro 8630 and a really nice Officejet Pro 8740 - I replaced these with a new Officejet Pro 9025... it will be interesting to 1) Redo all my shortcuts 2) Learn whether this fancy new printer likes to print what I want printed and how I want it printed.  Smiling.

Good Luck.
