Please help my printer clear E3 code. 4100e inkjet.  I have tried the virtual assistant instruction; it didn’t clear the problem. It was printing well before this. It may need updating software. I hope I’m understood,  Community. So if I can download updates on the hp app on my iPhone that would be great. When I open the app it reiterates that I have an E3 error code. What to do next, please, help a grandma out?. Thanks in advance.  (I probably won’t know where to go for your response but I’ll be 👀 looking)

Hi @rDimples1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The E3 error code on your HP 4100e inkjet printer typically indicates a paper jam or paper feed issue. If you’ve already tried the virtual assistant without success and suspect that a software update might help, here are steps you can take to resolve the E3 error code:

1. Clear Paper Jam

  1. Power Off: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Remove Paper: Carefully check and remove any paper from the input and output trays. Look for any paper jammed inside the printer.
  3. Check Inside the Printer: Open all accessible compartments and carefully remove any jammed paper or debris. Use a flashlight if needed to see inside the printer.
  4. Reinsert Paper: Reload paper into the input tray, making sure it is aligned correctly and not overfilled.

2. Check for Obstructions

  1. Inspect Rollers and Feed Mechanism: Look inside the printer for any obstructions or debris that might be causing the paper to jam.
  2. Clean Rollers: Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water to clean the paper rollers.

3. Reset the Printer

  1. Power Reset:
    • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
    • Wait for about 60 seconds.
    • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

4. Update Printer Software and Firmware

HP App for iPhone:

  • Open the HP Smart app on your iPhone.
  • Ensure that your printer is connected to the app.
  • Check for any available updates for your printer’s firmware or software. If an update is available, follow the prompts to install it.

HP Support Website:

  • Visit the HP Support website.
  • Search for your printer model (HP 4100e).
  • Download and install the latest drivers and firmware updates for your printer.

5. Perform a Printer Self-Test

  1. Print Self-Test Report:
    • Use the printer’s control panel or the HP Smart app to print a self-test report or diagnostic page. This can help identify if there are any hardware issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
