HP LaserJet Pro M1212nf Multifunction Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Printer follows a normal single paper pick-up with an immediate second pick-up and feeds the second piece of paper so that it causes a paper jam.  The repairman said that we need a new roller and, perhaps, a new clutch.

HP Online Parts lists two roller parts for the LJ M1200 series.

What is the difference between the Pick-up Roller RL1-1497-000CN, $10.67; and the Roller Paper Pick-Up RL1-2593-000CN, $47.93?  Does the RL1-2593 include the clutch?

(Virtual Chat and AI couldn't answer this.)

Thank you.

The rollers are nearly identical.

RL1-1497 is the original roller installed on the printer from the factory.

The other part number is a newer part also used on the MP assembly of many Pro series printers. The rubber compound used on the older roller seems much more durable.

As for the feeding a second sheet, that is not the roller. That issue is caused by a sticking pickup solenoid that allows the assembly to rotate twice and results in the second sheet feed. The problem is that over time the foam used on the solenoid breaks down and becomes a sticky mess which holds the solenoid open too long. This can easily be resolved by cleaning all the sticky mess off the solenoid and replacing it with thin sticky back foam or even duct tape. Check you tube for ideas on fixing solenoids, it should be behind the right side panel near the back.

Thank you very much, Repairatrooper.  I will try this.  I paid a technician to come and check out the printer to find and, hopefully, solve the problem. Now I realize he didn't know to look for the possible solenoid problem.  He called back today to say he found a roller assembly, but beyond that he wasn't interested and tells me to just get a new all-in-one printer.  This one, although old, has been lightly used and a core belief of mine is to repair and reuse whenever possible.

BTW, I did not receive an email from HP.com that someone had responded -- unless maybe in spam...
