It sits next to the DVR and the display is very bright, interrupting our TV watching in the evening. Very annoying and we'd like it to stop. A printer should only wake up when a job is requested. Is there a solution to thus problem? Thanks

Hello @Steiny815,
Thank you for clarifying the issue 🙂
You are right, in this case changing the energy save mode will not alter the behaviour of the printer. However, I would suggest you assign a manual IP to fix this issue. I think the printer is refreshing itself every now and then as per the command from the router and hence the untimely wakeup. Try the steps below to assign a static IP:
• Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to obtain the IP address.
• Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
• Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
• Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
• Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)
Let me know if that helps!
Cheers 🙂

Hello, @Steiny815 – Hope you are well!
Thank you for becoming an HP Forum member. It is a dynamite location to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others.
I understand your printer screen is always on. Ideally, the screen should turn off after some time of inactivity. The issue could be with the printer firmware. We can try updating the printer firmware and also check the “Energy save” settings of the printer. Try the steps below:
- Go to http://hp.care/2efVyOM and download and install the printer firmware.
- Now, obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to obtain the IP address.
- Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
- Look for “Energy save” option. It could be on the homepage of the printer EWS or under tools or settings.
- Make sure it is turned on or selected as “5 minutes”. Apply and save the settings.
Hope that helps. I will watch for your reply. Good luck!
Cheers 🙂

Thanks for the response but sorry if I wasn't clear. The printer does sleep. It is, in fact, asleep most of the time. It just wakes up in its own without us asking it to at random times throughout the day. It's a mystery. I doubt the energy saver mode will alter the behavior.
