I own the HP OfficeJet 6958. It's about a year old not under warranty anymore.  Feb 15,2020 I replaced both black and color ink cartridges, I hardly ever print and when I do I make sure I print in black and white only.  I have set my defaults to black and white only.  My color cartridge ran out last month, and now my black cartridge is low.  How can this be?  How do I connect with a live support person instead of the virtual agent who does not answer my questions?

@RNicole_G4 Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that you would like to know why the color ink cartridges running low while you have not used it.

To decrease grain, some black areas might be printed with a mix of black and color inks. If you follow the steps in this document to print with black ink only, no color ink is used in printouts.

Some ink from all the ink cartridges is used in periodic servicing tasks. This helps to prevent issues like printhead clogs and poor print quality.

Please update the firmware.
