I understand you're experiencing an issue with your printer that is malfunctioning.
To understand the issue and help you, please share the details listed below:
- Exact model number/product number(SKU number) of your HP Product (Click herefor information on how to find the model number/product number).
- Is it powering on?
- May I know which application are you using to print?
- When was the last time your printer was working fine?
- Were there any changes made to your printer recently?
- May I know which devices are you using to print eg: Windows PC, Mac, or Smartphone (Android or iPhone)?
Note: Do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc.

Hi. It is a HP Deskjet 4100. Connected to a hi speed 250MB/s WiFi. Never worked well since I bought it. Slow as hell. If it goes to sleep only the hammer can wake it up, or unplug the machine. No respond to the normal IOS printing app, no response to my son’s Android printing app, no response for the HP smart app (it ask me to create an account just to use my scanner????? What a joke! NO. ) Does not respond to my Windows 11 laptop commands either! The printer is listed and discoverable but does absolutely nothing! Almost NEVER! No printing and no scanning availability! It says the printer is busy! This printer, this company is the most useless ever in my life! I had Canon, and multiple type of Epson’s! But this machine? This is the bottom of the bottom! Utter useless piece of machinery!

Hi @Engie3,
Thank you for sharing the above information and I am sorry for the inconvenience.
Please follow the steps below to fix the issue.
A) Perform a power drain.
1) Take out the cartridges
2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.
3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.
4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.
5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.
Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges
B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.
C) If the issue still persists, Please follow the steps below to connect your printer to the network again.
1) Uninstall the HP smart app by click on this link, Restart the computer or mobile device to clear possible error conditions.
2) Enable Wi-Fi setup mode: When you turn on your printer for the first time, it is temporarily placed in Wi-Fi setup mode so that it can be discovered during setup. Use the printer control panel to restore Wi-Fi setup mode, and then set up the printer again. Go to Restore Wi-Fi setup mode on your HP printer for more information.
3) Refer to this link to use the HP smart app on your phone/tablet/PC to add a printer.
Note: Enable Bluetooth for an HP Smart app setup: Enable Bluetooth on your computer or mobile device so that HP Smart can detect the printer during the setup.

Is that it? I have used this crap printer 20 times in one year,… forced to pay automatic cartridge replacement subscription too! Payed more than the cost of the printer for 1 and a half year and HP didn’t even sent me new cartridges???? What I would expect from a printer that if I press the stupid button, it should do the job mate! I am not going to spend 2 hours for problem solving rather I will rather ditch it to the skip! ! This is where all HP printers and services belong …. Why HP rip off custumers and why HP selling crap printers? Why?

Hi. Good news! I found out the solution! I have un subscribed HP smart services! I bought brand new genuine HP cartridges and replaced the old ones. So now this crap company does not controlling what, and how many pages I print out! I do no longer pay HP to prevent and fully controll and monitor my printer. I recommend everybody to leave the subscription service in order to get back their machine! Very weird to pay someone to prevent you to use your own printer!
So, now my printer works brilliantly, does any printing or scanning job immediately with no delay! Forget about the testing and resetting and deleting and re installing advices all sort of crap from so called HP experts!
