HP ENVY Pro 6458 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Printer: HP ENVY Pro 6458 all-in-one
OS: Windows 10 pc
Have NO problem printing with USB cable. Want to setup Wi-Fi printing.
Used HP Smart.
Got the purple flashing on the printer. Waited an hour for printer to connect and HP Smart said, "Unable to connect. Error code -128"

Have rebooted, unplugged, reset both printer and router.
After last reset of printer, and after repeatedly doing above and despite pressing the Wi-Fi button for 5 seconds, there is a solid amber light after a brief purple flashing light. Also flashes amber in front right and amber I and flashing white E/0 symbol.

Hi @Joan511 ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're experiencing connectivity issues while trying to set up Wi-Fi printing for your HP ENVY Pro 6458 printer. Let's troubleshoot this step by step:

Check Wi-Fi Settings on the Printer:

  • Make sure that the Wi-Fi on your printer is turned on.
  • Check if the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.

Restart Your Router:

  • Turn off your router and then turn it back on after a minute. This ensures a fresh connection.

Reset Printer Network Settings:

  • On the printer control panel, navigate to "Network" or "Wireless" settings.
  • Select "Restore Network Settings" or a similar option.
  • Confirm the reset.

Reconnect to Wi-Fi:

  • Use the printer control panel to reconnect to your Wi-Fi network. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Ensure you enter the correct Wi-Fi password.

Check for Interference:

  • Ensure that there are no devices causing interference with the Wi-Fi signal near the printer.
  • Microwave ovens, cordless phones, and other electronic devices can sometimes interfere.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer on the HP website.
  • If updates are available, download and install them.

Firewall/Antivirus Settings:

  • Ensure that your firewall or antivirus software is not blocking the printer's connection.

HP Smart App:

  • Uninstall and reinstall the HP Smart app on your Windows 10 PC.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions carefully during the setup process.

Temporary USB Connection:

  • If possible, temporarily connect the printer to your PC using a USB cable.
  • Use the HP Smart app to configure Wi-Fi settings from the connected printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
