My 4 year old HP OfficeJetPro 6830 e All in One printer needed a replacement print head. I ordered a replacement unit made in China (assume they all are) from ebay. It was new and looked exactly like the one I uninstalled from my printer. All electrical ribbons were connected properly. Encoder strip was reconnected properly. Replacement print head fit perfectly into carriage. Hp inks fit into replacement print head correctly. Printer powered on. Print head in carriage moves correctly. Error message on printer screen reads, " Problem with Print Head". Did I possibly get a defective replacement part or does HP put a chip or something into its print heads that an after market print head may not have? Very curious why a re-install of this print head did not work.
Thanks,
beachguysp

It's is impossible to know for 100%. You might have an electronic board or ribbon cable problem, and the printer shows it like a printhead error.
The printhead on OJ 6830 is not intended by the manufacturer to be replaced as a spare part, they have reasons for that. If the eBay seller has sold more than a few of these printheads and has good feedback then the part itself could be fine.

Thanks for the reply. Just to confirm, do you know if HP does put a chip or something into the print head on the hp 6830 that an after market print head would not have? The reason I ask, these after market, brand new replacements can be purchased as I did on ebay for between $20-$40. Other sellers who advertise refurbished HP 6830 print heads are selling them for over a $100. They state their print heads are original HP.
