Hi @MichaelD72,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
If your HP printer receives a job but doesn’t print and only lights up, it’s likely due to a stuck print queue, driver issue, or communication error. Here’s how to fix it step-by-step:
1. Clear the Print Queue
Sometimes jobs get stuck and block new ones.
On Windows or macOS:
- Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers (Windows) or System Settings > Printers & Scanners (macOS).
- Select your printer > Open “See What’s Printing”.
- Cancel all jobs.
- Restart your printer and computer.

2. Use HP Smart App’s Diagnose & Fix Tool
This tool automatically detects and resolves common issues.
- Download or open the HP Smart app.
- Select your printer > Click Diagnose & Fix.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.

3. Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug it from the wall for 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
4. Check for Driver Issues
If the printer lights up but doesn’t print, the driver may be corrupted.
- Uninstall the printer from your system.
- Go to 123.hp.com and reinstall the latest driver using the HP Smart app.

5. Try Printing a Test Page
- On the printer control panel, go to Settings > Reports > Print Test Page.
- If this works, the issue is likely software-related.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
