Hi @lcampbell611,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
If your HP DeskJet 3772 is showing as "Ready" and has a green light but is still giving an error when you try to print, here are some troubleshooting steps to try:
Check for Error Messages:
- Look at the printer’s display or the HP Smart app for any specific error messages or codes. These can provide clues about what might be wrong.
Restart Printer and Computer:
- Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about 60 seconds before plugging it back in and turning it on. Also, restart your computer.
Check Printer Queue:
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers (Windows) or Printers & Scanners (Mac), find your printer, and check the print queue. Clear any stuck print jobs.
Update Printer Drivers:
- Ensure you have the latest printer drivers installed. Visit the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your model.
Check Printer Connections:
- Ensure that all cables (USB or power) are securely connected. If you are using a wireless connection, make sure the printer is connected to the correct network.
Please find the remaining steps in the next post.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @lcampbell611,
Please find the remaining steps below.
Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor:
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor from the HP Support website. This tool can automatically diagnose and fix printing issues.
Check for Paper Jams or Low Ink:
- Open the printer and check for any paper jams or if the ink cartridges are low or empty. Replace any empty cartridges if needed.
Reset the Printer:
- Perform a reset of the printer settings to return to default settings. This can often resolve underlying configuration issues.
Check Printer Status in HP Smart:
- Open the HP Smart app and verify that the printer status is correctly detected and there are no issues flagged in the app.
If the problem persists after trying these steps, Let's reset the printer.
I am sharing the steps in the next post.

Hi @lcampbell611,
Resetting your HP DeskJet 3772 can help resolve various issues. Here’s how you can perform both a soft reset and a hard reset:
Soft Reset
Turn Off the Printer:
- Press the Power button to turn off the printer.
Unplug the Printer:
- Disconnect the power cord from the printer and from the wall outlet.
Wait:
- Leave the printer unplugged for about 60 seconds to ensure all residual power is drained.
Reconnect and Turn On:
- Plug the power cord back into the printer and the wall outlet.
- Press the Power button to turn the printer back on.
Hard Reset
If the soft reset doesn’t resolve the issue, you might need to perform a hard reset:
Turn On the Printer:
- Ensure the printer is turned on.
Open the Printer’s Access Door:
- Open the front access door to expose the ink cartridges. Wait for the ink cartridge carriage to move to the center.
Remove Ink Cartridges:
- Gently remove the ink cartridges from their slots. Make sure to place them on a clean surface to avoid any ink spills.
Close the Access Door:
- Close the front access door to reset the printer's internal mechanisms.
Unplug the Printer:
- Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
Wait:
- Leave the printer unplugged for about 60 seconds.
Reconnect and Turn On:
- Plug the power cord back into the printer and the wall outlet.
- Turn the printer back on by pressing the Power button.
Reinstall Ink Cartridges:
- Once the printer is on and ready, open the access door again and reinstall the ink cartridges. Make sure they are seated properly.
Close the Access Door:
- Close the front access door and wait for the printer to initialize.
Factory Reset
If you need to perform a factory reset to restore the printer to its original settings, follow these steps:
Navigate to Settings:
- On the printer’s control panel, press the Settings or Setup button (it may look like a gear icon).
Select Printer Maintenance:
- Use the arrow buttons to select Printer Maintenance or Tools, then select Restore or Factory Defaults.
Confirm the Reset:
- Follow the on-screen instructions to confirm the factory reset. The printer will reset and restart.
After performing any reset, you may need to reconfigure your printer settings and reconnect it to your network. If these steps don’t resolve the issue, consider contacting HP Support for further assistance.
