Hi,
I used the printer with a USB connection but wanted to change to a wired ethernet connection. I have a 3com router (11g). When I connect the printer to the router there is no light in the ethernet port and the printer is not recognized. I tried changing ports and cables, as well as rebooting all components. I also tried to configure a static route in the router and manualy set the ip in the printer but to no avail...
Any tips on how to make it work or is the network card int he printer just broken?

Good Day. Thank you reaching out to the HP community. I will be glad to assist you and let’s get right to it. Excellent description of the issue. It is amply appreciated.
- Did you try a different Ethernet cable?
- Have you used the hardwired connection before and checked?
- Was there any power outage or surge?
For now, try these steps:
Usually an HP printer's Ethernet port does not have a light. Usually desktops and notebooks Ethernet ports have lights.
- Perform a hard reset on the printer from this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/product/hp-ink-tank-wireless-410-series/16180953/model/16180954/documen... perform steps from the section “Step 1: Reset the printer
Then follow all the relevant steps from this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/product/hp-officejet-4500-all-in-one-printer-series-g510/3919445/docume... (HP Printers - Wired Network Printer Setup (Windows)
- Step 1: Prepare for the driver installation and network connection
- Step 2: Connect the printer to the network
- Step 3: Install the software
- Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
- This should resolve the issue.
If the issue persists, then use this user guide link: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02051571 to resolve network related issues. Refer to page 113 for instructions.
Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂

Hi,
Thank you for your assistance.
I verified the cable works in other connections and tried a different cable for the printer - no success.
There where no power surges.
I am not sure what you meen by "hardwired connection" but the printer works fine with a USB connection.
I followed the trubleshooting guide as you proposed and got to another deadend. I printed the "HP Network Configuration Page" and got the following:
General Information
Network Status - Offline
Active Connection Type - None
URL(s) for embedded Web Server - http://0.0.0.0
Firmware Revision - MLM1FN0943AR
Hostname - HP69636C
Serial Number - CN114F60J505CQ
...
802.3 Wired
...
Link Configuration - None
All other fileds are "Enabled"
So it seems to me that the printer network is not set at all.... how can I overcome this issue?
Thanks in advance.
