OfficeJet Pro 8715
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

My OfficeJet Pro 8715 had been working perfectly out of the box for months.  Now it prints only sporadically - I can't seem to find the rhyme or reason to when and why it will print.  Have tried reinstalling, updating, restarting, restarting my router, turning off my firewall, etc.  It will print from neither my phone (iphone 6s) nor my laptop.  It will print a test page when selected from the printer itself no problem.  Issue started 10/16/16, from what I can tell.

I tried choosing an alternate driver, per the instructions on another thread, and this solved the issue for my laptop but not my phone.

Any ideas?

Thanks for letting me know that you can print from the iPhone now but still can't print from the computer, @krcullen.

Download and run the Print and Scan Doctor. It will diagnose the issue and might automatically resolve it. Let me know the results.

Power cycle the router, computer, and printer. Try and access the Embedded Web Server for the printer. Type the printer's IP into the internet browser to see if it loads the printer's page. Let me know.

Here are some more things to check if the issue persists.

Check the IPv4 address on the computer to make sure it matches the printer's IPv4 address.
From Devices and Printers, right click the printer, left click Printer Properties, select the Ports tab, click Configure Port.
If they don't match then close the Configure Port window and click Create a port and follow the wizard.

Type in the proper IPv4 address.
Make sure the printer is online.

Test the printer.

If you are still having issues, check the network IPv4 address on the computer to see if the first 3 sets of numbers match.

Press the Windows key and R at the same time, to show the run command line, type cmd, then type Ipconfig.
Check the IPv4 address.
Now check the IPv4 address for the printer.
Do the first 3 sets of numbers match?

If not then the printer and the computer aren't on the same network.

Try and ping the printer.
In the same window type ping IPv4 address of the printer. (space in between ping and the IP)
Do you get any replies back?

Let me know the results. Thanks!

Hello @krcullen,

Thanks for showing your interest in the HP Forums! I see that you are having issues with the wireless connection. I would like to help.

I would suggest to setup a static IP for the printer, to see if that will help:

Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection. Go to Solution four: Assign your printer a static IP address.

Put in the following Manual DNS Server information:

      a. Manual Preferred DNS should read 8.8.8.8

      b. Alternate DNS Server should read. 8.8.4.4

Select Apply. You might get a warning just select okay.

Try using the iPhone again and let me know if the network is staying connected.

Let me know if those steps worked for you. If they did, that’s awesome! Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons, that’ll help us and others see that we’ve got the answers! Good Luck!

Hi -

Thank you for your response.  I had already set a static IP but tried again, following the steps exactly from Solution 4.  Previously I had failed to update the printer software, so I did this and hoped it would be the solution.  Unfortunately, while it appears I have successfully set a new static IP (per the network configuration page), I still can't print from my laptop.  I can, however, print from my iphone.

When I send a file from my laptop, the "Now Printing Page 1 of X. . ." notification box never disappears.  I have tried restarting the print spooler but it doesn't work.  Any other ideas?  Why can my printer talk to my phone but not my laptop?  I have turned off the firewall but get the same result.

Thanks again for any thoughts!

Thank you - somewhere in this last solution my printer started printing again. I had tried the print and scan doctor several times, but by downloading a fresh version, it identified and corrected port issue. Thank you very much!
