Hi @Bridget64
Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand that you are facing an issue with your printer, I am glad to assist you today.
If your HP ENVY 6420e inkjet printer is unable to copy, you can try these steps:
- Reset the printer: To recover from printer errors, you can try resetting the printer. To do this, you can:
- Remove the rechargeable battery, if your printer has one
- Turn off the printer by pressing the power button or unplugging the power cord
- Unplug the power cord from the power source
- Wait 60 seconds
- Plug the power cord directly into the printer and a wall outlet
- Turn on the printer
- Check the ink cartridge: If the cartridge access door light is blinking, and the ink cartridge light is on, the cartridge might be counterfeit, previously used, or low on ink. You can check the HP printer software or the HP Smart app for more information.
- Check the paper tray: Make sure the paper tray has paper in it qand there is no jams.
To make copies with an HP printer, you can touch Copy, Copy Document, or Copy Photo on the printer control panel. You can also open the copy job options by touching Settings or the Gear icon.
To verify that you're HP Printer is using the latest Firmware programming Version, please click HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads. Once the website opens select the Download button on the top left. Allow the download to Run. Once the download is complete please follow any onscreen instructions to complete the Firmware Update.
Once the Firmware Update has completed successfully please try to copy again. If the issue still persists, than there are few things I would like you to check on your actual scanning assembly to verify if your copying hardware is functioning properly.
Step 4: Check Hardware:
- Power the printer ON
- Open the flatbed cover
- Hit the Copy button on your printer.
- Does the scanner bar move when you hit the copy button?
- Does the scanner bulb light up?
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.
