Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand that you want to disable the auto update on the printer, I am glad to assist you.

Disable the printer to automatically check for updates:

1. From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch (Setup).

2. Touch Printer Maintenance.

3. Touch Update the Printer.

4. Touch Printer Update Options.

5. Select Install Automatically (Recommended), Alert When Available or Do Not Check.

Dear Sandy, thanks for your email, however the auto update gets stuck time after time,  "the printer update could not be downloaded". Although it has all latest drivers and firmware installed!

Trying to disable to auto-update function tells me that this feature is locked so unable to disable.

You might have to perform a semi-full reset on the printer to unlock the feature.

The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may brick the device.

I am sending you a private message with the steps to reset the printer. Please check the mailbox icon at the top-right corner of this screen.

I hope this helps resolve this issue completely.
