Product: HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 5085 All-in-One Printer

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to use my HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 5085 All-in-One Printer just to scan some documents, but I’m stuck at a “setup cartridges” error. Both of my ink cartridges are no longer working, and unfortunately, I don’t have replacements at the moment.

Is there any way to bypass the setup cartridge requirement and still scan without working cartridges?

I would really appreciate any help or guidance. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

 

Unfortunately, HP printers typically require setup cartridges to complete the initial configuration, and most models do not allow scanning without functional ink cartridges. 

 

However, here are a few things you can try:

 

1. Perform a Printer Reset

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it for 60 seconds.
  • Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

 

2. Try Accessing the Scanner via HP Smart

  • Open the HP Smart app on your computer.
  • Go to Scan and check if the scanner is accessible.
