Hi @CowboyJasper,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

A blinking exclamation point on your HP printer often indicates a general error, which can include issues related to the ink cartridges. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and clear error code 01 and the blinking exclamation point:

1. Reinstall the Ink Cartridges

  1. Turn Off the Printer: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Remove the Ink Cartridges: Open the printer cover and carefully remove the new ink cartridges.
  3. Check for Protective Tape: Ensure that all protective tape or plastic covers have been removed from the new cartridges.
  4. Reinsert the Cartridges: Reinsert the ink cartridges into their respective slots, ensuring they click into place securely.
  5. Close the Printer Cover: Close the printer cover and plug the printer back into the power source.
  6. Turn On the Printer: Turn on the printer and check if the blinking exclamation point is cleared.

2. Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions

  1. Inspect the Printer: Open the printer cover and check for any paper jams or obstructions inside the printer.
  2. Clear Any Jams: If you find any paper or debris, carefully remove it to ensure smooth operation.

3. Perform a Power Cycle

  1. Turn Off the Printer: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Wait for 1-2 Minutes: Wait for at least 1-2 minutes to allow any residual power to dissipate.
  3. Plug the Printer Back In: Plug the printer back into the power source and turn it on.

4. Check the Cartridge Compatibility

  1. Verify Cartridge Model: Ensure that the new ink cartridges are compatible with your specific HP printer model. Refer to the printer manual or HP’s website for the correct cartridge model numbers.
  2. Use Genuine HP Cartridges: Ensure that you are using genuine HP ink cartridges. Non-genuine or refilled cartridges can sometimes cause errors.

5. Update Printer Firmware

  1. Connect to HP Smart App: Use the HP Smart app or HP’s software on your computer to check for any available firmware updates for your printer.
  2. Install Updates: If an update is available, follow the on-screen instructions to install it.

6. Reset the Printer

  1. Perform a Factory Reset: Some printers have an option to perform a factory reset. Refer to your printer's user manual for instructions on how to perform a reset.
  2. Check the Control Panel: Use the printer’s control panel to navigate to the settings and perform a factory reset if available.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
