I can't seem to change settings to print on index cards. It either prints on my paper or it says setting is wrong or that it's out of paper. I put my index cards in the photo tray but it doesn't print on them.

Hello, @hockeynanny – Hope you are well 🙂
Welcome to the HP Forum! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips!
I see that you are trying to print on 3x5 or 4x6index cards. Do not worry, I'll try to help!
If you want to use the above 2 types of index cards, then go to Control panel - Devices and Printers - right click on Envy 7640 and select printing preferences. Now, you should be able to set the Paper type and paper size under Paper/Quality tab to these options.
Once this is done, then you can take the paper out of the paper tray and narrow the paper guides to fit the index cards. Check http://hp.care/2r9w4GW to get more instructions on correctly loading the card.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.
Happy Gaming 🙂

Seems like a lot to go through to print on index cards. I tried your suggestions and it said to load paper in photo tray and I did that and then it said load paper in photo tray again. My last HP all you had to do was change paper size when typing your document and hit print. I'm not real happy with this printer. I do a lot of printing on index cards and photos and it's not an easy task. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

Hello, @hockeynanny
It could be an issue with the printer drivers. try the steps below to reinstall the drivers and check:
- Unplug the USB cable from the printer and computer if present.
- Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Envy printer entries and uninstall them.
- Restart your computer.
- Now click on http://hp.care/2omOX5O to download and install the printer drivers.
- Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
Now, try printing the index card by changing the paper type and paper size.
Let me know if that helps!
Cheers 🙂

Same topic. One think I hated about my last HP Envy was that I couldn't print on index cards. Used something else when that one broke, then went back to an Envy when that one broke. So my 7855 model is brand new, and I still can't print on index cards. Have tried both trays to no avail.
